LUANN OSTERGAARD

My creative spirit is awakened by the beauty I see in naturally occurring patterns and textures. As a visual explorer, and in the spirit of discovery, I pull on my leather boots, sling a camera across my back and go out in search of hidden beauty.

My inspiration may come while walking through the gritty chaos of a metal scrap yard or forgotten natural area. I find beauty in imperfection and see it in the weathered surface of a scrap of metal, natural stone or other found object. I seek to capture images that speak to me and have visual information I want to incorporate into my artwork. My desire is to inspire the viewer to seek and appreciate the unseen or overlooked beauty all around us.

I love a good representational composition as well - and sometimes combine those images I've captured with an overlay of another image of rust or texture I've taken along the way. This technique can give an ethereal or dreamy quality to the finished image. These compositions are released from a seemingly mundane image of a simple landscape when combined with an image of a weathered surface, and take on a new life, forever changed and elevated to a new form of visual energy.

My artistic process begins with an digital image printed in my studio using archival pigment inks on heavy100% cotton hot press fine art paper. The print can be mounted on a custom made boxed panel. The limited edition print is hand textured with clear acrylic medium for a beautiful brushstroke finish.
