Ron’s background as an artist started at a very young age. Painting and sketching as well as three dimensional observation seem to be a natural strength. These abilities earned him an opportunity to study and take art lessons at the De Young Art Museum in San Francisco as a junior high student. Ron is a graduate of Boise State University in Idaho where he studied business, art, drafting, graphics design and music.
Ron was introduced to sculpting by a very good friend and artist Dean Estes. In a short time Ron has become friends and associates with many of the worlds leading and most renowned wildlife painters and sculptors. Ron is a life-long student of artists such as Carl Runguis, Bob Kuhn and more recent artists Greg Beecham and Walter Matia. Sculptor Walter Matia entirely changed his life and outlook as an artist. Walter gave him the visual/ observational tools to move forward with a passion. He has been a true God-send with his time, tutelage and friendship.
Ron's art is a continuing effort to capture a unique and personal blend of realism and impressionism while maintaining a rendition of traditional and classic bronze. Rock like features and textures, stone outcroppings and mountainous slate play a major roll in the look and feel of all his work. Both in wildlife and figurative art, Ron has a passion to bring life, movement and drama to each piece of work.
This artist is an avid sportsman that truly enjoys the outdoors. Ron’s entire life evolves around wildlife field research, archery activities/ events, volunteering and supporting wildlife conservation groups and coaching his youth archery team.
Professional accomplishments and awards for graphic design and technical illustrations through the STC (Society for Technical Communications) include; Award of Achievement, Awards of Merit and Awards of Excellence. Ron has done several private commission pieces including the 50th anniversary bronze for the Boise Philharmonic.
He gives special thanks to his wonderful wife Karla for her tremendous support, and above all, thanks God for his many blessings!
